Throughout cinema history, there have been plenty of iconic sneaker moments showing up in movies.
Consider Forrest Gump‘s namesake unboxing a brand-new pair of Nike Cortez OGs, or Brendan Fraser’s character in George of the Jungle doing the same with a fresh pair of black-and-white Nike Air More Uptempo before tearing off into the jungle.
In Like Mike, a pair of Nike Blazers played a central focus — Bow Wow’s character found a beat-up pair that magically transformed him into a Jordan-caliber hooper — and we all know Back to the Future, Part II boasts a pair of futuristic Nike Air Mags designed by one Tinker Hatfield.
One model that emerged from a Hollywood flick that’s stood the test of time is the Air Jordan 11 Retro ‘Space Jam,’ which first appeared in Space Jam in 1996. The special colorway debuted on Michael Jordan’s feet as he defeated the Monstars in an intergalactic basketball game for the ages.
It’s been re-released a couple times in retro form since then and remains a pair heavily coveted by sneakerheads.
Now, 25 years on, Space Jam is back with a new look, and so are a couple pairs of movie tie-in sneakers on classic silhouettes from Converse.
The Chuck 70 adds oversized “Tune Squad” branding on the lateral heels and the medial panels feature the concentric circles from the famous Looney Tunes logo.
If you want to be more overt, the Chuck Taylor All-Star Hi pair features your favorite characters, from Taz and Marvin the Martian to Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Lola Bunny, against a black canvas upper with orange contrasting Tune Squad branding on the tongues. That’s all, folks.
Lace ’em up and save the universe when the Converse x Space Jam: A New Legacy collection releases in Men’s and Kids’ sizing on 7/16 at jdsports.com and in stores.
