All the way back in 1975, the Roswell Rayguns of the ABA were having a terrible season.
That is, until a team of time-traveling basketball stars led by Dr. Funk landed in their spaceship from the distant era of the mid-2000s and turned the team’s fortunes around.
Part of the advantage these hoopers from the future brought to the court was their out-of-this-world footwear: Nike Shox and Zoom Turbines.
In case you couldn’t already tell, Dr. Funk and the Rayguns were the stars of a Nike ad campaign during the 2002 NBA postseason. The campaign featured Vince Carter. Jermaine O’Neal, Paul Pierce, Baron Davis and Jerry Stackhouse, and spawned a number of releases over the years paying tribute to the story.
In the futuristic year of 2021, the Swoosh is bringing back the Roswell Rayguns’ colors on a collection of classic basketball models that are more likely found on the street these days.
Dressed in retro-inspired orange, yellow, black and white, you can rock your Rayguns allegiance in the Nike Air Force 1 Low, the Nike Air Raid, the high-top Converse All-Star or the Converse Pro Leather.
Landing on 1/15 at jdsports.com, you better get in quick before the Nike ‘Roswell Rayguns’ collection blasts off.
