Ever since the infamous “Maroon 5” Atlanta Super Bowl incident in 2019 the NFL Media commission has partnered with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company to lead, produce & consult media affairs. That has led to in this writer’s opinion more culturally appropriate talent line ups, such as last year’s artist showcase from the Weeknd, & 2020’s Miami line up with Shakira, J-Lo & more.
That brings us to this years must anticipated line led by Dr. Dre including Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, & Kendrick Lamar. The lineup is more than just hip-hop and R&B icons, it boasts past collaborators of Dr Dre’s and talent central to LA’s music culture. It’s a full circle moment as stated by Snoop Dogg & Dre in the vid below.

The show will be a great example of unity as well with different regions being represented by the lineup Detroit, NYC, & LA will be in the building. It’s going to be interesting to see how everything comes together creatively, Dre has stated it’ll be a good challenge to “wow” everyone watching. I’m hoping we get some mashups of favorites. It would be great to hear/see Em & Kendrick collaborate on stage. Mary J is a legend in her own right so only choosing one-two songs will be hard.
The past 3 years have shown that the NFL’s commitment to supporting the hip-hop culture authentically was genuine. The partnership with Jay-Z has been just that, a partnership where we’ve seen a good mix of talent & artist expression that wouldn’t have been possible without the conversation being had. Roc Nation has done a good job of using it’s roster of talent to create energy around the show & the funds benefit Social Justice initiatives led by Roc Nation as well.
Who are you most excited about? This show will be one for the books.
