It’s a little-known fact that, back in the late 1980s, iconic Nike designer Tinker Hatfield toyed with the idea of using black denim on the ankle of his first Jordan model, the AJ3.
Eventually he decided upon perforated leather, and the rest is history. But Jordan Brand’s newest colorway, the Air Jordan 3 Retro SE ‘Denim,’ contains a throwback nod to that original design.
The equally iconic elephant print pattern appears on denim overlays on the toe and heel, with Fire Red leather hits on the ankle, lace eyelets and logos on the tongue and heels.
The Air Jordan 3 was the first model to incorporate Michael Jordan’s now-legendary logo, and the rear of the shoe pays homage to that with a translucent Jumpman laid over the top of Nike Air badging.
